Compassion

This Mercury retrograde I have experienced and witnessed the wildest communication misunderstandings.

I keep getting brought back to compassion.

Compassion is what creates connection no matter what is happening.

Can you have compassion for yourself?
Can you have compassion for another?

I decided to look up the collective definition of compassion and I don’t agree that it means: “suffering together”
…if anything with extreme empathy you may fall into this.

I also found the definition:

“sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it”

I think this is closer, but not necessarily that we have the desire to allieviate others sufferings, because truly only they can do that, but rather when we choose to interact with compassion, we don’t exacerbate the situation, but rather we choose a manner to create more harmony and connection. This could be encouraging words or a sweet tone or simply an inviting safe energy to hold space (without trying to fix someone, allowing their process.)

I feel compassion is having understanding and sympathy towards what others live based on the unique circumstances they experience, knowing that everyone is doing their best in every moment, thus leading interactions with forgiveness, unconditional love and an open kind heart.

It takes immense self awareness and self control to choose to respond like this instead of react from ego when people are emotional and distressed, because humans are social mammals and we easily polarize each other.

But simply from reading this message, I trust that when the next situation arises, you’ll be different because this seed of connection for greater compassion has been planted in your heart 💖

With love 🤍
